Found crouched over a box of records for sale, Derek was wearing a pair of crazy neon yellow sneakers. Upon closer inspection, we discovered Derek was sporting the vintage collaboration between Adidas and Stan Smith. He had first spotted them in the wrong size at Ross, but six months later, a visit to a different Ross revealed his size. Within a few weeks of buying them, he said the color began to morph a bit, but that didn’t stop the flood of compliments he receives every time he wears them. Now he kicks himself for only buying one pair.

Fun facts about Mr. Smith: American Stan Smith torn up the tennis courts in the 1960’s and 70’s, and was approached by Adidas to endorse the Haillet shoe in 1971. The shoe was re-issued at the turn of the 21st century. Even more fun, a full black boot variation of Stan Smith’s are worn by Rick Deckard in Blade Runner*. We’re not sure how these facts connect to the wild Aztec pyramid-inspired graphic on Derek’s shoes, but we digress.
